HUONG DINH DESIGNER

Hello! I’m Huong.

I hail from Hanoi, Vietnam, a multi-layered and dynamic city that prides itself on its character. I think growing up there has greatly influenced my interest in studying urban environments, as well as my approach to landscape design—one that is rooted in play, experimentation, and multidisciplinarity.

While working, I often shift nimbly between extensive research and quick iterations to explore different design possibilities, while drawing from distinct fields such as dance, graphic design, and game design. These wide-ranging interests have found expressions in my focus on shaping experiential qualities of space as well as pedagogical and public engagement initiatives.

I came to landscape architecture with an initial interest in big issues like climate change and resilience but stayed for the joy of learning and discovery, and for the beautiful connections I have made—both colleagues and collaborators. (I haven’t given up on my hope of our power to catalyze positive change though!). I believe that the practice serves as an important self-reminder for mindful engagement with our surroundings and others, which is desperately needed in this age of increasing digitalism. Also, it allows me to bring so many of my other interests into my practice, making work feel like play—one of the best feelings!

When I’m not at work, I love to either move around—taking walks or dancing with friends; or just stay in to craft stuff—whether it’s weaving, drawing, or molding clay, you name it!
